| With April coming around the corner, all AHS students are preparing for one thing: spring break! The joyful period of relaxing and recuperating before the last quarter of the 2010-2011 school year is the force that pushes more students into their last quarter refreshed so they can finish their year with a bang. “I’m just happy that spring break is finally coming up,” said sophomore Anne Ying. But due to the more fiscal economy that has gas prices steadily rising, spring break can get as hassling as finals week. But going away isn't the only way to enjoy spring break, whether it be “catching up on rest” as junior Andrew Chen stated, or finishing a great book, watching a timeless classic or learning how to do something new, the possibilities of this spring break are endless even if you stay home.
But why is spring break such a necessity? “Because if you didn't have spring break you might just [go insane] from all the stress,” Andrew continued, and he isn’t far off the mark. Since our school year hasn’t had a break since the middle of February, our minds have gone into over drive, and spring break “gives students a chance to rest from all the school work. They can slow their lives down from going 100 mph all the time to actually enjoy life” added freshman Harrison Ma who was also excited as well for spring break. “I’m going to rest and hang out with my friends mostly,” Harrison continued, commenting on what most students are looking forward to most: rest.
Like Harrison and Andrew said, rest is one of the main aspects of spring break that most AHS students are waiting so impatiently for. Our school lives just fly past us without anyone batting an eyelash, so we end up working off adrenaline and coffee, not taking the time to smell the roses and look at the beautiful sky above. With school constantly bombarding us with news and information, we quickly stop seeing the whole picture and end up with tunnel vision. While having focus and drive is key to a successful future, how are we to enjoy what’s around us if we can’t even see it? So this spring break, don’t focus all your time studying or worrying about that test that will undoubtedly come the day after you get back, but relish in sunshine and warmth that is the freedom you have for a limited time. |
