| As we anxiously count down the last few seconds before being released from the last, seemingly, never-ending school day before winter break, we immediately start daydreaming about everywhere we’ll go and everything we’ll do(aside from studying, that is). But as the bustling students we are, we never have the time to think of different places to go this holiday break aside from the mall that are still close. Worry not, stressed students of AHS, here are some exciting ways to spend your winter vacation! Ice Skating: Scared of that extra weight after stuffing yourself full of holiday food? Want the closest thing you can get to actually skating on a frozen lake? Pasadena Ice Skating Center (PISC) is not only local, but also inexpensive. For only a small price of $10, $7 for admission and $3 for skate rental, you can have endless hours of skating during the public admission times, which are located on its website www.skatepasadena.com. In addition, PISC offers skating lessons for those interested and is in fact home to Mirai Nagasu, who was one of AHS’ own students and 4th place winner of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Make sure to bring some extra money to buy hot chocolate or coffee to drink while the ice is being repaved, and go bundled up and in your warmest clothing! Bowling: Need to relieve some of that built-up tension and stress towards school? Why not try your hand at bowling? A game of bowling can soon turn into some friendly competition between some friends or just with family. Lucky for us, we have an inexpensive and reliable bowling alley nearby. If you’re looking for a regular game of bowling with cheap shoe rentals and games, head on over and visit Action Lanes, which is located in a plaza in El Monte. Action Lanes has very clean lanes and there are always plenty of bowling balls to spare. But of course when your hands get cramped up from throwing the ball at the pins, visit the small arcade or choose a delicious snack from the many vending machines there. The Getty Center: Located near downtown Los Angeles, the Getty Center is a great place to relax with family or even with friends. It has endless galleries full of art from various time periods. Even getting to the Getty Center itself is an adventure. After parking your car, you can take a metro-like “train” that takes you up into the mountains where this museum is located. Along the way, you can see the beautiful scenery of Los Angeles from above. However, what attracts most people is the Central Garden which has beautiful flower gardens and a main rose garden in water where many people toss coins into. All three of these are great places to be this holiday season if you aren’t going on vacation and it’s especially great to get some fresh air once in a while instead of cramming all day for semester finals. Go out and enjoy at least some of your break and most of all, just remember to relax and unwind. |

But as the bustling students we are, we never have the time to think of different nearby places to go this holiday break aside from the malL. Worry not, stressed students of AHS, because here are some exciting ways to spend your winter vacation! Laser Tagging: Tired of those regular arcade games like Time Crisis? Why not head on over to Ultrazone in Alhambra and laser tag with your friends? It’s only $8 a game per person or get the “All You Can Play” package for $22. If this is too expensive, take advantage of their special deals located at their website, www.lalasertag.com. This is the perfect way to not only intensify your spy skills, but also to exercise after a large holiday meal. Laser tagging will amp up some competition amongst your friends, and why not set a bet to make things more interesting? Not only does Ultrazone offer laser tagging, it also sells food and drinks, as well as an air hockey table. So grab your friends and enjoy yourself! | As we anxiously count down the last seconds from being released of the last, never-ending day before winter break, we immediately daydream about everywhere we’ll go and everything we’ll do (aside from studying, that is). Since we are such bustling students, we never have the time to think of unique yet nearby places to go this holiday break. Worry not, stressed students of AHS, because here are some exciting ways to spend your winter vacation!
Laser Tagging: Tired of those regular arcade games like Time Crisis? Head on over to Ultrazone in Alhambra and laser tag with your friends! It’s $8 a game per person or get the “All You Can Play” package for only $22. Still too expensive for your empty pockets after Christmas shopping? Take advantage of Ultrazone's special deals listed on their website, www.lalasertag.com. Laser tagging is the perfect way to not only improve your spy skills, but also exercise off a large holiday meal. This high-paced activity will amp up some competition amongst your friends, and why not set a bet to make things more interesting? Ultrazone not only offers laser tagging, but also sells food and drinks. Grab your friends this winter break and drop by Ultrazone!
Bowling: Need to relieve that built-up tension and stress from schoolwork? Why not try your hand at bowling? A game could soon turn into a friendly competition between some friends or even with family. Lucky for us, we have an inexpensive and reliable bowling alley nearby. If you’re looking for a regular game of bowling with cheap shoe rentals and games, head on over and visit Action Lanes, located in a plaza in El Monte. The Getty Center: Located near downtown Los Angeles, the Getty Center is a beautiful place to relax with friends and relatives. It exhibits endless art galleries from various time periods. Just getting to the Getty Center itself is an adventure. After parking your car, you can take a metro-like “train” that takes you up into the mountains where this museum is located. Along the way, you can see the exquisite scenery of Los Angeles from above. Of course, there is the other route, which includes walking up to the museum by following a circular pathway. However, what attracts most people is the Central Garden which displays beautiful flower gardens and a main rose garden in a mini-fountain style where many people toss coins into to make a wish.
All three of these are great places to be this holiday season if you aren’t going on vacation, and it’s especially healthy to breathe in some fresh air occasionally, instead of cramming all day for semester finals. Go out and enjoy at least some of your break and most of all, just remember to relax and unwind. |
